Recognized Provider
An educational provider approved by BAMF, authorized to conduct integration and professional language courses.

Literacy Course (Alpha Course)
Integration course for individuals who cannot read and write, even in their native language. 900 UE regular + 100 UE orientation course + up to 300 UE repeat contingent.

Employment Agency
Authority for job seekers, responsible for funding such as education vouchers. Not for citizen's income recipients (→ Jobcenter).

AVGS – Activation and Placement Voucher
A voucher from the Jobcenter or Employment Agency for measures to activate and integrate into the workforce (e.g., application training, coaching, job-related language support, placement).

AZAV – Accreditation and Approval Regulation for Employment Promotion
Legal basis for the certification of providers to offer funded measures.

BAMF – Federal Office for Migration and Refugees
Responsible for integration and professional language courses, exams, provider approvals, and participation authorizations.

Professional Language Course (BSK)
German for the workplace. Funded by BAMF according to DeuFöV. Target level: B2. Final exam: DTB.

Education Voucher
Document from the Employment Agency or Jobcenter for full financing of a certified course.

DTB – German Test for the Workplace
Final exam of the professional language course. Level: B2. Exam provider: telc.

DTZ – German Test for Immigrants
Final exam of the integration course. Level: A2–B1. Important for naturalization and residency. Exam provider: g.a.s.t.

DeuFöV – German Language Promotion Regulation
Legal basis for professional language courses. Regulates access, content, target groups, and funding.

Placement Test
Test before course start to determine current language level (e.g., A2, B1). Mandatory for BAMF courses.

Integration Course (IK)
State-funded course for newcomers. 600 UE language course + 100 UE orientation course. Goal: B1. Final exam: DTZ + LID.

Jobcenter
Authority for citizen's income recipients. Responsible for placement and funding, e.g., professional language courses.

Customer Number / Measure Number
Required for registration and management of funded courses with the provider or employment agency.

LID – Life in Germany (Test)
Test at the end of the orientation course. Topics: society, politics, history. Important for naturalization.

Measure
General term for funded educational offers (e.g., language courses, language course with application training).

Module (Integration Course)
A course section of 100 UE. 6 modules language course + 1 module orientation course.

Publicly Funded Language Course
Umbrella term for all state-funded language courses (e.g., IK, BSK).

Orientation Course
Part of the integration course with topics like law, culture, history, society. 100 UE + LID test.

Examination Center
A provider authorized to conduct recognized exams like DTZ, DTB, and telc.

Certificate of Participation
Confirmation that a person has attended a course.

Participation Authorization / Admission (BAMF)
Official proof that someone is entitled to participate in a funded course (IK or BSK).

telc – The European Language Certificates
Recognized exam provider for language tests (A1–A2).

TuM – Test and Registration Center (only for IK)
BAMF-recognized center for placement tests and management of participant data.

UE – Teaching Unit
1 UE = 45 minutes of instruction. Standard measure for course scope (e.g., 400 UE = 300 hours).

Certified Provider (AZAV)
A provider approved according to AZAV – necessary for funded measures via education voucher.

Target Language Level
The level to be achieved in the course (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1). Set according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Second Script Learner Course (ZLK)
Literacy course for individuals who can read and write but not in Latin script. 900 UE + 100 UE OK + up to 300 UE repetition.

Interim Test
Test conducted after a certain number of UE in integration or professional language courses.
